ZEELAND — Local business leader and philanthropist Jack Miller died Wednesday, April 2, at the age of 93.
Miller was an owner of Howard Miller Company, a Holland-based clock manufacturer started by his parents, Howard and Martha. His grandfather was Herman Miller, eponym of the Herman Miller Furniture Company (now MillerKnoll).

Miller started at his father’s company in 1954 and took over as president and CEO in 1974. He retired in 2002, leaving the company to his brother, Phillip. Miller’s son, Howard, now runs the business. Miller continued to serve on the company’s board until his death.
He also served on many boards throughout his life, including as a corporate director of First Michigan Bank and as director and chair of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
In a press release issued Thursday, April 3, the city of Zeeland expressed sympathy for Miller’s family and recognized his contributions to the community; the biggest of which include the funds he donated toward the Howard Miller Library, which honors his father.
