What was the advertised breakfast for the “Breakfast of Champions?” Wheaties of course. Do you remember the names of the Rice Krispy Trio…Snap, Crackle and Pop! How about Nabisco…shredded wheat in the shape of a bun that you sometimes ate for breakfast’
These and many other cereals have either been replaced, or removed from the breakfast table completely.
Do you remember “Don McNeil’s Breakfast Club?” Coming out of a Chicago Radio Station, it covered a good portion of The United States and Canada. My mother even wrote for tickets to the program…and then. breaking down when my father informed her that the studios were in Chicago and we couldn’t go. At the time, we were living in Toronto Ontario.
Speaking of Broadcasting, did you know that a Canadian…Reginald Aubrey Fessenden was the man who brought AM Radio to the Air Waves? The time was Christmas Eve of 1906. He had been experimenting for several years. Finally, he presented the first Radio program to the astonished crews on ships of the United Fruit Company in the Atlantic and the Caribbean. It was a mix of Violin and Piano music, Christmas Carols, and a Bible Reading all performed by Fessenden and his wife. I’ll tell you more of the story on another occasion,
