At the final meeting of the year for the Algonac City Council Mayor Rocky Gillis presented a Nice Neighbor Award to Robert Sheets, the new owner of the Little Caesars Pizza located at 2658 Pointe Tremble Road in Clay Township. Council member Dawn Davey was absent from the Dec. 19 meeting.
Sheets was nominated for his generosity, as he has donated pizzas for several events in the area. Since taking over the establishment in September. He has donated pizzas to the Algonac Lions Club Trunk or Treat event, Red Cross Blood Drive and Bright Light Christmas Decorations Contest. On December 2, when the City of Algonac held their Christmas in the ‘Nac event along with the Algonac Faith Coalition’s Nativity, Live Experience, Sheets, once again, donated many pizzas to all of the volunteers who helped put on the event.
His kindness and contributions to the community are greatly appreciated, and truly inspiring, Gillis read from a prepared proclamation.
Sheets addressed the council and the audience stating this was his first venture in owning a pizza place but he’d worked in the industry for many years. He said the Algonac store is his first purchase and so he’s just getting into it.

Algonac Mayor Rocky Gillis presents a Good Neighbor Award to Robert Sheets, the new owner of the Little Caesars Pizza in Clay Township.
“I was very community driven before coming here; I worked in the public schools in Imlay City in Lapeer County – coached sports football, wrestling and track and field,” Sheets said. “So, I’ve always been involved in the community and so far, everyone in this community has really embraced us with open arms.”
He said the store planned to drop their pizza prices on Christmas Eve to $5 per pie instead of $7. Sheets also said he’s contacted the local schools to let them know he’s can help out for special events.
“If you guys keep supporting us, we’ll be giving back and it’s been a good three months,” Sheets said.
“I’ve heard nothing but compliments,” Gillis stated at the conclusion of the presentation.
“We are very thankful to have Mr. Sheets and Little Caesars Pizza be part of the Algonac Community,” City Manager Denice Gerstenberg said in a written statement to the council.
During the council comments portion of the meeting Councilman Corey Blair gave a shout-out to Sheets for becoming a vibrant member of the community.
“I’d like to also congratulate Mr. Sheets, he’s done some really kind things just in the short time he’s been here and we look forward to having him in our community,” Councilman Ed Carter added.
Mayor Pro Tem Ray Martin also took time out to thank Sheets for his donations and said since he plans on doing more of that he extends a sincere thanks to him.
Gillis echoed those thanks to Sheets for coming to town and stated that as a new small business owner he’s shown he wants to be a community partner.
“I think that’s the difference between the small business owners and medium sized business owners – where we know their faces- then the faceless corporations that have left our waterfront so many times,” Gillis said. “Like the stores and the banks who just pickup and leave and they have no personal investment in this town.”
Gillis said he’s sorry he went on a tangent about it but it’s how he feels.
