The San Francisco 49ers injury news was a mixed bag Saturday when they returned to practice for the first time since their second preseason game Thursday.
Rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, two of the team’s more important players, are both out of practice and considered day-to-day with shoulder injuries according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.
NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco also noted cornerback Renardo Green, offensive lineman Austen Pleasants andlinebacker Nick Martin are all out after suffering injuries in Thursday’s game at SoFi Stadium. Green hurt his hamstring early on and never returned. Pleasants hurt his knee late in the game and was quickly ruled out. Martin also suffered a hamstring injury. The severity of these injuries is still unclear.
It isn’t all bad news for San Francisco on the injury front, though. Wide receiver Mike Evans, right guard Dominick Puni, running back Jordan James and defensive tackle CJ West are all back in action Saturday per Wagoner. That quartet was out of Thursday’s contest.
Evans appeared to sustain an injury in the 49ers’ joint practice with the Chargers the Tuesday before their preseason matchup. He had ice on his foot and quad after leaving the session early. Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t sound concerned after practice and Evans wound up returning quickly.
James has been out since the first week of camp when he suffered a rib fracture at the hands of a teammate. He was the frontrunner to be the backup running back in a battle with rookie Kaelon Black. Black was also out with an injury, but he was very good in his return and it seems James will have an uphill climb to that role now that he’s back in the mix.
