Former Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is currently trying to find his way to a championship with the Dallas Mavericks after he missed this past season with a knee injury. However, there was a time where Brooklyn had Irving on the team while he was in his prime and recently, he reminisced on some of his highlights from his tenure with the Nets.
“Ya’ll never like see another player like me and I’m fine with that, but you’ll see a better player than me, for sure,” Irving said during a recent livestream. Irving spent part of his Twitch livestream watching some of his highlights from his time with the Nets which featured him making some of his best crossovers and awe-inspiring layups against the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic.
Irving, 34, currently has career averages of 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and 39.4% from behind the three-point line. Irving had arguably his best stretch of basketball playing alongside forward Kevin Durant in Brooklyn as the former Duke Blue Devil averaged 27.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 48.9% from the floor and 39.6% from deep.
When Irving signed with the Nets in July of 2019, the same summer that Durant was traded to Brooklyn from the Golden State Warriors, everyone around the NBA believed that the Nets could have win a championship. However, Irving and Durant’s tenure with the Nets ended with the team getting to the second round of the playoff just once in three seasons.
Brooklyn eventually traded Irving to the Mavericks during the 2022-23 season after it became clear that the team wasn’t going to achieve much with head coach Steve Nash being fired and Irving and Durant wanting out. With all of that as the backdrop, Irving still took the time to reminisce on his time with the Nets as he remains confident in who he is as a player and how rare his playing style is.
