Springfield area Week 1 high school football top performers, results

The Illinois high school football season kicked off Friday and Saturday in the Springfield area.

Here are the top performers from the area’s Week 1 games.

Top Performers

Demetrius Roberson, Sacred Heart-Griffin

The senior receiver made the spectacular go-ahead touchdown grab with 9.1 seconds remaining in a 27-23 nonconference win over New Lenox Lincoln-Way Central in Bloomington on Saturday. He had two catches for 62 yards.

Evrim Tabag, JP Leonard, Rochester

Tabag, a junior running back, rushed for 158 yards on 26 carries as Rochester rallied from a 10-0 deficit to defeat host Moline 21-17. Leonard, a senior quarterback, threw for two touchdowns with no interceptions and 139 yards.

Lane McAnally, Petersburg PORTA

The senior quarterback rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two more as PORTA opened the season with a 50-21 home win over Pittsfield in a Sangamo Conference game. He had a pair of 10-yard TD runs and a 2-yard rush. Bryce Davis (17 yards) and Drew Carter (52 yards) each caught a touchdown from McAnally, who completed 12 of 14 passes for 271 yards.

Beau Chance, Auburn

The senior quarterback threw for 211 yards and one touchdown on 18-of-31 passing, while also rushing for 109 yards on 23 attempts in a 31-21 loss to Stanford Olympia. Chance gave up two picks. Senior running back Chance Crissey ran for 137 yards and two scores on 17 attempts. Jimmy Lollar ran for 172 yards on 16 attempts with two scores for Olympia, including a pick-6 for 89 yards in the first quarter.

Malik Banks, Chatham Glenwood

The junior running back pulled off a 52-yard touchdown run and hauled in a 10-yard touchdown grab in the second half of a 35-26 loss to Normal West. He totaled 90 yards of offense.

Seth Durbin, Lincoln

The senior caught two touchdowns passes in a 40-20 nonconference win over Peoria Manual at Handlin Field. He finished with three receptions for 61 yards. He scored the first touchdown on a pass from Logan White in the first quarter and the Railsplitters scored 40 unanswered points. Sophomore Quinten Mead and junior Reece Warner combined for 139 yards rushing. Warner had three TD runs.

Konnor Reynolds, Nokomis

The senior ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in a 32-13 win over Arcola in the Lincoln Prairie Conference. Lane Herpstreith and Kannon Jonas each ran for 47 yards and a score. Jonas also threw for 56 yards and a TD. Jonas led the defense with 10 tackles, including seven solo. Herpstreith nabbed an interception.

Elijah Patton, Hillsboro

The senior quarterback ran nine times for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing a 19-yard TD to Eli Zaidi in a 27-14 win over Pana in the South Central Conference. Junior running back Noah Satterlee carried the ball eight times for 119 yards and one TD.

Isaac Repscher, Taylorville

The senior quarterback went 13 of 19 for 331 yards and four touchdowns in a 47-7 nonconference win over Olney Richland County. He also supplied a TD run. Wyatt Younker was the top target with four catches for 153 yards and two scores, while Blake Ladage and Maddex Havera also had a TD grab. Taylorville’s defense notched two picks.

Jeremiah Jackson, Jacksonville

The junior running back summoned 166 yards rushing on 11 attempts in a 34-27 nonconference win over Jerseyville, not to mention one catch for 15 yards. Darren Henry supplied 92 yards rushing and two touchdowns on seven carries, while Terrion Jackson had 74 yards rushing on 18 attempts. Rylan Reese (56 yards rushing) and Wesley Crowley-Ortiz (42 yards) each ran for a score as well. Jacksonville totaled 443 yards rushing as a team.

Athens run game

The Warriors totaled 295 yards rushing as a team in a 46-8 win over Riverton in the Sangamo Conference. Talon DiGiovanna led the way with 58 yards rushing and a TD, followed by Jestyn Ray (54 yards, 1 TD), Jarred Harris (52 yards, 1 TD) and Lincoln Kirk (51 yards). Kenneth Baker and Luke Tapscott also ran for a score. Tapscott threw a TD to tight end James Jones (3 catches, 53 yards) and completed 5 of 10 passing attempts for 97 yards.

Qwentyn Stombaugh, Vandalia

The senior quarterback totaled six touchdowns in a 48-20 win over Carlinville in the South Central Conference. He went 11 of 19 for 184 yards passing and three touchdowns, while supplying 125 yards and three scores on the ground.
