Brownsburg 48, Lawrence North 25, F
Insider: Flashy? Maybe not. But Brownsburg’s Brady Lewis is reliable and tough – and he wins.
Class 6A No. 1 Brownsburg looked the part in the second half of its 48-25 win over No. 4 Lawrence North, turning a five-point halftime deficit into a runaway win.
Here are the things that stood out:
Turning Point: Lawrence North had a 19-14 lead on Brownsburg’s first drive of the second half. The Bulldogs were faced with a third-and-13 around midfield and appeared to be facing a certain punting situation when Oscar Frye’s passed sailed over the head of a receiver. But Lawrence North was called for a pass interference, extending a drive that ended with Parker Condon’s 8-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 21-19 lead. Brownsburg never looked back, scoring 28 consecutive points in the third quarter.
Play of the Game: As far as pretty plays go, it would be difficult to beat Frye’s 48-yard pass to Branden Sharpe over the top for a touchdown midway though the third quarter. Frye laid it out there perfectly for Sharpe to run under and take it into the end zone.
Top Performer: Brady Lewis and the Brownsburg offensive line deserves a lot of credit. Lewis, the Bulldogs’ senior running back carried 35 times for 225 yards, running through big holes and making his own at times. About the only negative for the Brownsburg offense was Kansas recruit Nick Vecrumba, an anchor for the offensive line, injuring his right knee in the second half. He said after the game he was hopeful to play in Friday’s home opener. Sharpe caught four passes for 88 yards and a score. Izayveon Moore had a 96-yard kickoff return for Lawrence North and 67 rushing yards. Quarterback Darian Prather had 13 rushes for 107 yards.

Full story: ‘That’s his specialty.’ Zechariah Wallace pulls down jump ball and Warren Central victory
GREENWOOD – The tide is turning, and the Class 6A fifth-ranked Warren Central Warriors verified it Friday night at 6A No. 6 Center Grove.
After losing nine straight against the rival Trojans (0-1, 0-1) before winning last year’s regional title game, Warren Central (1-0, 1-0) officially put together a two-game streak with a come-from-behind 20-14 victory during their season and MIC opener.
The Warriors broke a 14-14 tie late in the fourth quarter, as senior quarterback Anthony Dennison found Zechariah Wallace for a 9-yard touchdown pass in the end zone.
Warren Central’s defense stood its ground on Center Grove’s final drive through the remaining 1:11, capped by an incomplete, third-down pass deep in the red zone.
Senior Keyon Thomas rushed for 129 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns, including a 38-yarder to put Warren Central ahead 7-0 in the first quarter and to deadlock the game later off a 1-yard run in the third.
Dennison completed 20 of 41 passes for 281 yards, and Wallace finished with 103 yards on seven catches. Mykell Tanner caught seven passes for 112 yards.
CG junior quarterback Oscar Sloan threw for 206 yards on 18 completions with a 10-yard touchdown to Roman Youngs that gave the Trojans a 14-7 lead in the third. Senior Elijah Williams hauled in three receptions for 119 yards.

“We got off to a little bit of a slow start, but not the same type of slow start we had last year,” Avon coach Rob Gibson said. “I thought we were executing well. We were just one guy away from executing perfectly.”
“I thought our defense did an exceptional job. Jason Thompson and the defensive staff’s game plan was spot on. And hats off to the defense for never really making it a concern for the offense as we got a couple scores.”
Hines, a junior was making his first start at quarterback for the Orioles.
“It feels good, starting the first game of the season and coming out with a big down and blowing them out of the water just feels nice,” Hines said. “We’re just gonna carry our momentum into the next game and make (it to) the state championship.”
“Our offense rallying around us and our tempo on offense, it really helps out … Our first couple drives were a little rough, but once we clicked, we never stopped clicking.”

Carmel 47, Fishers 0, F
Remiscent of their 2025 season opener, No. 2 Carmel took down No. 12 Fishers by double digits to open their 2026 campaign on Friday. The Greyhounds secured their first win of the new season with a 47-0 home win over the Tigers in Class 6A. The home team secured the first touchdown one minute and 42 seconds into the game. Offensively the Greyhounds found the endzone four times in the first half and added three more in the second half. All the while, their defense forced two turnovers and pitched a shutout.
Here are the things that stood out:
Turning Point: After teammate and running back Mychael Lewis fumbled the ball,Carmel receiverAidan Carpenter scooped it up and ran down the left side of the field for the opening touchdown from about 49 yards out during the team’s first drive.
“Adrenaline, man, there’s nothing like it,” Carpenter said. “There’s not really a lot going on (in my mind), just straight adrenaline. I’m glad we could get it done. That was obviously a great way to start the season, looking forward to more of those.”
It was the first haymaker in a game full of them by the Greyhounds. It was a “lucky” score that set the tone for the home team. Greyhounds kept pressing the gas, while the Tigers couldn’t catch up on both sides of the field.
Play of the Game: Down big and trying to put points on the board, Fishers freshman quarterback Roman Wessell tried to squeeze in a pass with a 40-0 deficit with about nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Carmel defensive back Drake Coellner jammed the passing lane and secured an interception that gave the ball back to the home team. A few plays later, the Greyhounds’ offense iced the game with a 5-yard touchdown run by Gavin Jones.
Top Performers: Carmel quarterback Jackson Treadwaythrew for two touchdowns in the first half, including an eight-yard pass to Ayden Johnson in the first quarter and a 20-yard dime to Alim Broadnax in the second quarter. He also walked in a one-yard touchdown about four minutes into the second frame. His first-half heroics helped the Greyhounds take a 27-0 lead into halftime. By the final whistle, Broadnax caught two of Treadway’s touchdown passes, including a 20-yard grab in the second quarter and a 5-yard grab in the third quarter. Treadway totaled four touchdowns in the game. The Greyhounds’ defense contained Wessell, who was bombarded by defenders. He went 5-for-11 passing for 40 yards in the first half with his longest throw being 12 yards. As a team, the Tigers went 1-of-5 on third down.
