Chargers cornerback Tarheeb Still could be in for a breakout season this Fall.
Still is heading into his third season in the league, and no one is higher on him than fellow cornerback Donte Jackson.
Jackson, like Still, spoke to the media after Thursday’s practice and had high praise for the former Maryland Terrapin.
“He’s a Swiss Army knife,” Jackson said. “He does everything in the secondary. He can play dime. He can play safety. He can play nickel. Obviously, he’s a great outside corner as well. Sky’s the limit for Tarheeb. He’s one of the smartest players I ever played against.”
Still served as a crucial part of the Chargers’ secondary last season. His sophomore season wasn’t as good as his rookie season, but he was still a strong coverage defender and the team’s top slot corner.
In 2026, he is still expected to take a leap from a reliable rotational piece to one of the league’s top premier young corners. Jackson certainly believes he can make that jump.
Defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary previously worked with Still in 2024 as the safeties coach. O’Leary has said that he loves how the cornerback room has grown, including Still, and he has high hopes for that position group.
“The two of the guys (Cam Hart and Still) that we got that are established guys are only in their third year, so, to me, that’s a room that can keep ascending,” O’Leary said.
The Chargers’ cornerback room may lack established star power, but it has the potential to emerge as one of the team’s biggest strengths in 2026. If training camp is any indication, things are looking up for O’Leary’s unit.
Still finished the 2025 season with 53 tackles, five tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and seven passes defended. Those numbers could balloon for Still with O’Leary calling the shots.
