49ers reunite with Deebo Samuel on 1-year deal

Since his breakout rookie season in 2019, when he helped the San Francisco 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV, Deebo Samuel has been one of the premier players in football due to his dual-threat nature and consistent production within the Kyle Shanahan offense.

Despite a poor season in 2024, followed by an unsuccessful stint with an injury-riddled Washington Commanders team, Samuel remains an offensive piece that could be the final key for a championship contender. Thus, many urged the Los Angeles Rams to consider signing Samuel, suggesting he would be the offensive addition the team had been lacking to complete the roster.

Those suggestions no longer matter as Samuel has re-signed with the 49ers on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Samuel’s addition comes as the team deals with injuries to Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk. Samuel will join Mike Evans and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling.

For the Rams, they will play the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, to open the 2026 season. Samuel’s wide back role, allowing the 49ers to use him as a receiver and running back, has caused issues for Los Angeles in prior years. Samuel is 30 years of age and 2026 represents a crossroads in his career. If Samuel is to have a strong second act, the Rams should expect a hungry and focused opponent.
