Earthquake shakes Lake Michigan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 shook Lake Michigan on Wednesday afternoon.

The earthquake, at 3:38 p.m., was located about 13 miles northeast of Evanston, Illinois, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior’s U.S. Geological Survey. It had a depth of 3.1 miles.

Reports from observers have come in as far north as Kenosha, Wisconsin, and as far south as Tinley Park, Illinois, according to the USGS.

No damage was reported.
