Tim Klunder, longtime city manager, takes medical leave in Zeeland

ZEELAND — Zeeland City Manager Tim Klunder is taking short-term disability beginning July 9, as the longtime official continues to fight stage four melanoma.

Kevin Plockmeyer, current assistant city manager, will serve as interim — councilmembers announced during a meeting July 6. His salary will temporarily increase from $163,781 to $178,000. He’s filled the role twice before.

“I appreciate the confidence you have in me,” Plockmeyer said July 6. “I have a fantastic team … and they allow me to be able to do this as well.”

Klunder has served as city manager since 2002, and has been fighting melanoma since 2021. He will be honored for 25 years of service at 3 p.m. July 8 at the Colonial Clock Building, 201 W. Washington Ave.
