Where Florida's 2027 recruiting class stands in ESPN's June rankings

Florida football ranks fifth in ESPN’s team recruiting rankings update at the end of June.

Although it’s a one-spot drop from the previous update, a top-five ranking is impressive for a first-year head coach, even at an SEC program. Jon Sumrall and his staff hit the recruiting trail hard and landed 14 commits between April and June.

Sumrall and Co. added seven more names to the list this month: four-star defensive end Cahron Wheeler (No. 23 DE), four-star inside linebacker Ellis McGaskin (No. 7 ILB), four-star safety Kamarion Johnson (No. 29 S), three-star defensive end Zahmar Tookes (No. 55 DE), three-star safety Robert Geathers (No. 58 S), unrated long snapper Jaydee Lane and unrated kicker Aaron McWilliams.

Wheeler and McGaskin are both ranked inside the ESPN top 300, giving Florida 11 players total from the list. As the summer cycle wraps up and high school players prepare for their senior seasons, there’s less volatility in these rankings. The goal is to hold onto any flip candidates and add a finishing touch or two.

What’s clear is that Sumrall is recruiting the trenches hard, and Florida is finally landing elite pieces on the offensive line. Development needs to follow, but the talent is there.

For comparison, Florida currently sits at No. 5 on the 247Sports composite team rankings and No. 6 on the Rivals industry team rankings. 247Sports’ standalone rankings are less bullish on the Gators, placing them at No. 10.
