Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30 are expected to be the hottest days of the week, with heat indexes above 100 degrees for much of the state.

Lake Michigan will provide a slight cooling effect for communities along the lakeshore, like Manitowoc, Sheboygan and Port Washington. The nighttime hours won’t provide much relief for inland areas, with heat index values in the 70s.

It will remain extremely hot through at least Friday, July 3, though feels-like temperatures may drop below the 100-degree mark after Tuesday.

Here’s the heat index outlook and tips for staying safe in extreme heat.

What is an extreme heat warning?

An extreme heat warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected or already occurring. Avoid outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay indoors in an air-conditioned space as much as possible, including overnight. Check on family and neighbors.
