J.J. Watt calls Rams a 'scary, scary team' after Myles Garrett trade

If Aaron Donald chooses to return to the Los Angeles Rams this season, it would mark the first time in NFL history that a team had multiple players who have won multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards. Donald and Myles Garrett are two of a select few.

Donald and Garrett combine for five total awards, with Garrett hoping to join Donald, Lawrence Taylor, and J.J. Watt as the NFL’s only three-time winners. Recently, Watt spoke to Pat McAfee about the Garrett trade and the idea of getting Garrett and Donald on the same field together. Watt praised the move, stating the Rams are a scary team.

“This is unbelievable,” Watt said. “It’s a team who was already, I believe, favored to win the Super Bowl, or at minimum compete for it, and then you add one of the best defensive players in the history of the game. It’s incredible, and what they’re doing out there with their whole mentality around never satisfied and willing to give up picks for anything, don’t care about the picks at all, you have to respect it. You have to appreciate it, and they’re going all in all the time, and it’s going to be scary, because he [Garrett] has always been playing from behind. He has always been playing in games where in the fourth quarter teams are running out the clock to win the game, and instead, he’s most likely going to be playing with a whole bunch of leads now, and he’s going to have a chance to just tee off on quarterbacks in guaranteed pass-rushing situations. It’s going to be a sight to see. That defense is already good, and then you add one of the best players in the league, and you have the MVP on offense, and everything they have with Sean McVay. Like, it’s a scary, scary team.”

Watt also stated he believes Donald would be dominant in a potential return. He addressed the limitations of Donald being able to play in and play out, but echoed that with a proper rotation, Donald could be as effective as ever.

“I don’t think he’d have any problem with that. I think he would dominate no matter what,” Watt said. “I think the bigger question comes to longevity and how many plays he can in a game throughout the course of a season.”

Watt also spoke about the strategic advantages of playing on a quality defensive line that the Rams currently possess, especially when the line is expected to play with a lead.
