Jayden Maiava with full stable of running backs elevates USC backfield

Jayden Maiava will be entering his second year as the starting quarterback for the USC Trojans. Even with the loss of two big-time weapons to the NFL (Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane), Maiava still has enough talent to help him replicate his successful 2025 season. One crucial player this season will be star back Waymond Jordan.

In a recent article, Aiden Checketts highlights the importance of Waymond Jordan to Jayden Maiava’s success this season. Here is what he had to say:

“In addition to having great weapons on the perimeter and solid protection upfront, Maiava’s success also hinges on having a reliable run game to help the offense become more balanced. One player who could help that cause is running back Waymond Jordan.

If Jordan can stay healthy and showcase his blend of speed and power, he could add another element to USC’s offense, which could make Maiava even more dangerous and potentially one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten.”

During the time in which Waymond Jordan was healthy, the Trojans’ passing game and run game were in perfect harmony. It was a short sample size, but Maiava was as confident as he’s ever been to start the season. Jordan’s 6.5 yards per carry average does damage to defenses. That opens the door for Maiava to attack defenses down the field. Both Maiava and Jordan can greatly benefit from each other and make each other better. That will only make the Trojans’ offense even more dangerous.
