A four-alarm fire tore through an apartment complex in the Town of Clarkson, New York, early Sunday, displacing more than 30 residents and damaging 21 apartments.
Fire engulfs apartment building
Firefighters were called just after 4:45 a.m. Sunday, June 21, to an apartment complex at 3640 Lake Road in Clarkson, located just outside Rochester in Monroe County.
The fire involved a three-story apartment building in the center of the complex, located just north of West Ridge Road. According to the Brockport Fire District, four separate callers reported a fire that was “burning out of control.”
The blaze quickly escalated to four alarms, drawing firefighters from 15 departments across Monroe, Orleans and Genesee counties. Brockport police and Monroe County sheriff’s deputies also responded to assist.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and assessing damage.
Residents, pets rescued
One resident was rescued from a burning apartment and carried to safety by firefighters, according to fire officials.
Four residents were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and released. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Firefighters also rescued two cats and an iguana from the building.
Dozens displaced
The fire damaged 21 apartments and displaced 30 residents, according to the Brockport Fire District.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
