The Dallas Cowboys have put a lot of effort into rebuilding their defense to help return to the playoffs, but just making the playoffs isn’t enough for quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott acknowledged improvements he’s noticed going up against the defense, and after all the moves made, just making the playoffs is low on their list of goals in 2026. He’s motivated by the energy he’s seeing from his teammates on defense and defensive coordinator Christian Parker, which is why he believes making the playoffs is a minimum goal. He and the team have aspirations far greater than just making it to the dance.
Another player with big aspirations in 2026 is running back Phil Mafah, who sat out the majority of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. Now Mafah has the opportunity to shine and show he is worthy of backing up starter Javonte Williams. Both Mafah and Jaydon Blue have been getting more reps with the starters. The Cowboys coaching staff may view Mafah as the back best suited to back up Williams, thanks to his size and physical running style. It will be up to Mafah to prove it on the field and take control of the RB2 spot.
