The Texas Longhorns had been a little stagnant on the recruiting front. However, that’s changed over the last month or so with six blue-chip pledges, which has helped them climb to the No. 11 class for the 2027 cycle.
There’s one big prize out there that Texas hasn’t gotten yet, and that’s five-star cornerback John Meredith III. He’s set to commit on Friday, and the Longhorns are one of the top three schools in the running along with Alabama and Texas A&M.
Some very encouraging news in terms of the Longhorns chances came by way of Keegan Pope of Rivals on Thursday. He mentioned that Texas has received multiple projections from to land Meredith. Jason Callaway of Aggie Yell and Justin Wells of Inside Texas made their projections today, which followed Adam Gorney of Rivals would did the same on Wednesday.
This would be a huge get for the Longhorns if it comes to light. Snagging the No. 2 overall prospect and the top cornerback in the country is no small feat, especially since Texas A&M, who has the top recruiting class in the country, was looked at as the leader for Meredith during the spring.
Texas already has four-star safety Greedy James committed in 2027. The addition of Meredith would take the secondary haul to another level for the Longhorns, and would likely land them in the top 10 as far as recruiting is concerned.
Nothing matters until Meredith reveals his choice, but Texas has to be very confident going into his decision.
