Three men potentially face life in prison following their indictment on murder charges related to a fatal shooting last summer in the City of Elmira.
A Chemung County grand jury indicted Marcus Johnson, 36, of Rochester, Ahmad Anderson, 24, of Greece, New York, and Craig Murphy-Hampton, 34, of Rochester, on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, in connection with the June 9, 2025, shooting death of 31-year-old Yasean J. McQueen, no address given.
Around 8 p.m. on that date, police officers responded to the vicinity of Pulaski Park on the city’s Northside for a report of gunshots with injuries, police said. Arriving officers found McQueen and another person who had both been struck by gunfire, according to the Elmira Police Department.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital, where McQueen was pronounced dead. The other person, identified in the indictment as D’Lonte Hubbard, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The indictments don’t indicate who possessed the firearm — a semiautomatic pistol, or who fired the shots that killed McQueen and injured Hubbard, but did indicate the suspects acted in concert with the receipt of, or expectation of payment for the act.
Murder for hire is one of the circumstances that warrant a first-degree murder charge, which carries a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
No motive for the shooting was revealed in the indictments.
All three suspects were arraigned in Chemung County Court and committed to the Chemung County Jail without bail.
