The closure begins on July 6.

The store is expected to reopen in four weeks. Its pharmacy will remain open throughout the process.

The changes will improve speed and convenience at the stores, the company said. The updated store will have new paint, fixtures, signage and LED lighting;  expanded aisles; online grocery pickup and delivery upgrades; and pharmacy Improvements.

The South Keystone store is the second to undergo the rapid remodel process the company is testing.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5550 E. Fall Creek Parkway North Drive reopened on June 5 after a similar short-term remodel closure.

Traditional remodels, during which stores remain open to shoppers, can take up to six months, the company said.

More Indiana Walmart stores being remodeled

The two Indianapolis stores are among a dozen Indiana Walmart locations being remodeled in 2026. Walmart is updating more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets across the country this year.

Other stores being updated in June include Walmart Supercenters in Aurora and Fort Wayne.

Enhancements will support increased online ordering of grocery and other services, said James Valenti, Walmart regional vice president.

“When you see these remodels, you’ll see us expand our digital offering from more square footage and how we grow that faster delivery,” he said.

When will Walmart close?

The South Keystone store will close for remodeling starting on July 6.
