In just a few months, the 2026-2027 college basketball season will tipoff and the expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns. Last week more of their schedule was released when it was announced that Texas will face Louisville in the ACC/ SEC Challenge. The rivalry is set to renew on December first.
While these programs have not faced each other in a while, they have plenty of history. The Longhorns and Cardinals have met seven times, with the most recent meeting coming during the 2023-24 season. As the Longhorns look to move closer to evening the all-time series, they will also be looking to prove themselves against one of the most historic programs in the nation.
The Longhorns’ first win in the series came at the Great Alaska Shootout in 1986. Then Louisville took over, winning four straight before the Longhorns finally got back in the win column four years ago. As Texas looks to shine on the national stage, it will hope to win its third SEC/ACC Challenge in the last three years.
After a stellar 2025-2026 campaign, the Longhorns’ roster will look very different when they take on Louisville. Head coach Sean Miller and his coaching staff have been busy in the transfer portal, adding Amari Evans, Mikey Lewis, David Punch, Isaiah Johnson, and Elijah Freeman. That group will be tasked with leading the Longhorns to a national title.
Although the time for the Texas-Louisville clash has yet to be determined, fans can already start marking their calendars. All games from the SEC/ACC Challenge will be aired across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, the ACC Network, and the SEC Network. Now all fans have to wait for is the time to tune in.
