Report: Rams made big trade offer for Maxx Crosby in 2022

The Los Angeles Rams have been on the hunt for a pass rusher like Myles Garrett for a long time. They satisfied that itch temporarily in 2021 when they traded for Von Miller, but they only had him for half a season.

The following year, in 2022, the Rams tried to trade for three different pass-rushing stars: Garrett, Brian Burns and, according to Albert Breer, Maxx Crosby.

Breer revealed in his column on Friday that the Rams made offers for all three pass rushers before the 2022 trade deadline, coming up empty on all three. They offered two first-round picks for Burns, but were denied. They tried to give the Browns two first-rounders and a fourth for Garrett, but Cleveland said no.

Breer says the Rams’ offer for Crosby was “similar” to what they offered for Burns, so around two first-round picks.

Ahead of the 2022 trade deadline, the Rams were looking for pass-rush help, feeling the loss of 2021 deadline acquisition Von Miller. They’d called the Panthers, and after going way down the road on a Christian McCaffrey trade, before the 49ers landed him, they offered two first-round picks for Brian Burns. They made a similar offer to the Raiders for Maxx Crosby. And they went further with the Browns—a package that topped what they’d traded for Ramsey (two firsts and a fourth) for Garrett.

The 2022 season was a colossal mess for the defending Super Bowl champions, losing everyone from Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp to Aaron Donald and Allen Robinson to injuries. There’s nothing Crosby, Burns or Garrett could’ve done to fix that season.

But it begs the question of “what if?”

What if the Rams had acquired one of those star pass rushers? Would they have done enough in 2023, 2024 or 2025 to put them over the top as Super Bowl champions? Probably not.

But now Los Angeles has its star edge defender in Garrett, who will hopefully be the missing piece in 2026.
