The Detroit Lions are adding to their front office by hiring former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier as a personnel executive, according to an ESPN report on Wednesday.
Grier spent a decade as the Dolphins GM and more than a quarter-century with the franchise in total. He was the Dolphins’ director of college scouting for nine years (2007-15) before getting the GM position, an assistant director of college scouting (2003-07) before that, and started with the Dolphins as a scout in 2000.
He previously spent five seasons as a scout for the New England Patriots (1995-99) and got his start in the business as an intern for the Patriots in 1994.
Grier joins a personnel department that includes former Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey, whom the Lions hired in 2021.
Grier led the Dolphins to some decent seasons during his tenure as GM, but Miami went 0-3 in playoff games under his watch and reached a high-water mark of 11 wins in 2023. The Dolphins were 82-83 during his tenure.
Chris’ brother, Mike, played 14 NHL seasons and is currently the general manager of the San Jose Sharks.
