Happy Taco has closed in Brighton — but a new concept is coming soon

BRIGHTON — There’s a new hibachi restaurant coming to the former Happy Taco at 9912 E. Grand River Ave.

Kazoku — which means “family” in Japanese — will be operated by Israel Quintero, owner of La Finca Tacos in Genoa Township.

Happy Taco, which opened in 2024, confirmed permanent closure with a note on the door thanking loyal customers. The eatery’s menu included street and birria tacos, vegetarian tacos, fajitas, fries, nachos, quesadillas, burritos, taco salad, chimichangas, tortas, quesabirria, pizza birria, desserts, drinks and more.

Quintero said the new fast-casual restaurant should open in early July, after he’s done repainting and making other minor cosmetic changes. The expected menu includes steak, shrimp, teriyaki chicken, vegetables, rice and noodles, and deep fried sushi.

Quintero has been making hibachi food for over 25 years and has a deep love for the cuisine. Kazoku, he said, will provide an opportunity to run a different kind of restaurant.
