Michigan State football adds Illinois LB Matthew Brady to 2027 class

Three days into the meaty month of college football recruiting, Pat Fitzgerald landed a linebacker for Michigan State’s future.

Matthew Brady from Bloomington, Illinois, announced on Wednesday, June 3 via X that he will join the Spartans’ 2027 recruiting class. That makes eight commitments for the first-year coach in his first full recruiting cycle since being hired late last year.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Brady is a three-star recruit from Bloomington Central Catholic who is rated the nation’s No. 1,360 player overall and is No. 122 at linebacker according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. The 46th-rated player in Illinois picked MSU over offers from the Illini, Northwestern, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech and a number of Group of 5 programs.

Fitzgerald hinted on social media Tuesday night that the Spartans could potentially have two recruits committing today.
