COLDWATER, MI — Dr. Abdulsalam Salem received approval from the Coldwater Planning Commission on Monday, June 1, for a special use permit to convert the former Kimble Law offices at 57 S. Hudson St. into a residence.
The property was rezoned to the Central Business District (C-2) in 2003.
Insight Hospital has yet to make an official announcement, but is expected to add the family practice physician to its roster of local providers by next month.
Salem told the commission, “I’m returning from Saginaw to Coldwater to join Insight Coldwater Hospital as a family physician.”
The 33-year-old Coldwater High School graduate completed medical training at the University of Pikeville Kentucky Medical School, and a residency at Central Medical University.
The 2011 Coldwater High School graduate is returning to Coldwater to be closer to family.
With residences to the east and south, Planning Director Robert Hawley said, “It definitely fits the neighborhood.”
City master plan
Two years after hiring Progressive Companies, a Grand Rapids-based planning and consulting firm, to update the city’s 2017 Master Plan, the planning commission will receive the document for action at its July meeting.
Progressive laid out a possible timeline for adoption, with planning commissioners to review the draft and send comments/questions to Hawley in the next couple of weeks.
The goal is to have a near-final version ready for Planning Commission approval by October, for the public hearing on the master plan and the recommendation for adoption.
Then, the City Council considers final adoption after the commission’s action.
The public will get a look at the plan, which will serve as a guide for the city’s future development, after planning commission approval in July.
