New York Giants release LS Zach Triner, sign OL Jarrod Gray

The New York Giants have officially signed international rugby player Jarrod Gray.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 313 pounds, Gray is a massive rugby star who signed with the Giants as an offensive lineman. Due to his international roots, he will not count against New York’s roster limit. The big man now finds himself with the opportunity of a lifetime as he competes for a spot on the Giants’ offensive line throughout training camp this summer.

On Monday, the Giants also signed veteran wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios. Gray could play a direct role in each veteran’s success this summer, as he will likely line up with the trio throughout training camp.

Gray faces an uphill battle as he begins his NFL career, given his lack of football experience. The former rugby star possesses elite speed and athleticism for his size, and his talents could translate well to the gridiron.

Gray currently has one of the most unique stories in football, and he will look to thrive during his time on the Giants’ offensive line.

In addition, the Giants have terminated the contract of long snapper Zach Triner.

Triner spent just over two months with the Giants after signing with New York as a free agent in March.

The seven-year veteran will likely draw interest from numerous teams around the league following his release. Triner spent the majority of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but a string of injuries over the past few seasons has caused him to miss significant playing time since 2023.

The Giants could continue trimming their roster in the near future. New York has added several veteran talents over the past few days, as general manager Joe Schoen and his staff appear to be as busy as ever ahead of training camp next month.

Triner could have been New York’s starting long snapper in 2026 if the team had kept him, but he should have no trouble finding a role with another team before the September kickoff.
