Texas and Tennessee meet for the second time today thanks to a 5-2 Longhorns win in the first matchup. The Horns needed a win to force another game against the Vols. The winner of Game 2 will advance to the Women’s College World Series Championship Series.
Defending national champion Texas is trying to win two titles in a row and make its fourth championship series in five years. The Longhorns only loss in the WCWS was to Tennessee in the first game of the event.
Texas is lead by ace pitcher Teagan Kavan, who got a one-out close in the first game against Tennessee. Kavan was last year’s WCWS MVP and is one of the best pitchers in college softball.
On offense, Texas is led by sluggers Reese Atwood and Katie Stewart. Atwood has the most home runs in program history and Stewart has set the single-season UT record.
The winner will face the winner of the Alabama-Texas Tech matchup later tonight.
