Ortonville man wins $1 million on Powerball ticket: 'Is this a joke?'

When an Oakland County man got an unusual email from the Michigan Lottery, he knew he must have won big.

Roger Roy, 61, of Ortonville, told the Michigan Lottery he has a Powerball subscription set up on his online account, and the day after the April 29 drawing, he got an email that was different than normal.

Instead of logging in and investigating the prize immediately, Roy waited for his wife to return home.

Later that night, they were in disbelief when they discovered he had won a $1 million Powerball prize.

“All I could think was: ‘Is this a joke?’ It still feels unreal!” he told the Michigan Lottery.

Roy’s ticket matched the five white balls drawn April 29: 3, 19, 35, 51 and 67.

He plans to save the money for now.

“I’m sure we will do something fun with the money down the road, but for now we just plan to save it and use it as a financial cushion,” he said.
