Downtown Mount Clemens bar and hall closes after a decade in business

After 10 years in downtown Mount Clemens, O’Halloran’s Public House, known for its Irish and American fare, has closed, and the building has been sold.

Known as a contemporary English-style public house, O’Halloran’s announced its closure with “heavy hearts” on Wednesday, May 26, in a Facebook post.

“We’ve weathered the highs and lows of the restaurant industry, faced challenges we never could have imagined, from floods to COVID, and everything in between,” the post reads. “Through it all, we kept going because of you.”

O’Halloran’s is also known for its banquet hall where special occasion events from baby showers to graduations to weddings have taken place.

The owners called O’Halloran’s “more than a business to us — it’s been a home, a family, and a community” and thanked its staff and customers for all the support.

“This isn’t the ending we hoped for, but we are so proud of the memories we created together over the past decade. We’ll carry them with us always,” according to the post.

O’Halloran’s opened in 2016 with other partners. Boone, who passed away in 2021, named the establishment after his mother’s maiden name.

Two doors from O’Halloran’s is Orleans Sports Bar, which is also owned by the same family members and partners. Jennifer Hawk, general manager of Orleans Sports Bar and a family member, told the Free Press the O’Halloran’s building has been sold. O’Halloran’s was known, Hawk said, not only for its Irish fare but also for its American fare, including its selection of more than half a dozen sliders.

“Our intention with the sale of the building, for our staff, our customers and banquet customers is that there would be a smooth transition with a new tenant,” Hawk told the Free Press. “Unfortunately, it did not go that way, but we are optimistic that there will be someone new (a restaurant and bar operator) in there very soon. “
