ESPN put together four trade proposals to the Indianapolis Colts for quarterback Anthony Richardson. Would any of these fake offers actually get a deal done?
Richardson remains with the Colts as OTAs are underway because his trade market never truly developed.
As Adam Schefter described in late March, Richardson’s trade market has been “soft.” GM Chris Ballard also wants to ensure that he is getting a fair return for Richardson, the former fourth overall pick, who is still just 23 years old.
With rosters pretty well set around the NFL, finding a trade partner moving forward may not come easily.
For now, Richardson remains with the team and is participating in OTAs, and potentially competing with Riley Leonard for the backup role.
So with no real trade offers materializing, several of ESPN’s analysts recently put together mock trade proposals to the Colts, with Colts’ reporter Stephen Holder then picking the best offer.
Holder selected the Vikings’ offer as the best of the bunch, noting that it’s a win-win for both sides, with the Colts getting a fifth-round pick in return, while Richardson gets to play for Kevin O’Connell, who is a part of the Sean McVay coaching tree, which has a strong track record of developing quarterbacks.
“It gives the Colts a fifth-rounder without a pick swap like Solak’s offer from Detroit,” Holder wrote. “And Minnesota’s fifth-rounder will likely come earlier than Green Bay’s fifth-rounder, giving this deal the edge over Fowler’s pitch.”
If it were me, I’d take Solak’s offer and get a fourth-round pick in what is expected to be a loaded 2027 NFL draft class. I wouldn’t be all that concerned about parting with a seventh-round pick in 2028.
