The state finals in girls tennis are here.
The action starts with Division 4 on May 27-28, Division 1 on May 29-30, Division 2 from June 3-4 and ends with Division 3 on June 5-6.
Here are some Metro Detroit individuals to watch when the action kicks off.
Division 1
Emerson Jones, Saline
Jones is in her first season of high school tennis, but she has plenty of experience in the sport as a senior. She enters the tournament as the top seed at No. 1 singles while sporting an 18-0 record. Jones did not drop a game in three matches at regionals.
Gabriella Sadowski, Utica Eisenhower
Sadowski is no stranger to this tournament. She won the state title in 2024 and then was the top seed last season before falling in the championship match. Now a senior, Sadowski is 20-0 in 2026 and 86-5 in her four-year career. If Jones and Sadowski were to meet in the final it would be highly anticipated.
Kayla Lemke, Clarkston
The top seed after Jones and Sadowski, Lemke, a junior, can spoil the party. After rolling through the No. 3 singles flight and winning the team title in 2024, Lemke did not play high school tennis a year ago. She is 20-2 in 2026 and 46-2 in her career.
Division 2
Keira Kirkland, Farmington Hills Mercy
Kirkland has logged two straight No. 2 singles runner-up finishes, and is seeded third after moving up to No. 1 singles this season. The senior is 16-3, and has plenty of experience playing deep into the second day of the tournament.
Laila Aslam, Grosse Pointe North
The junior Aslam is 15-1 on the season and has secured a seed at the No. 1 singles state finals. Aslam won her regional championship without dropping a set.
Jada Josifovski, Birmingham Seaholm
The No. 1 team in Division 2 has Josifovski at the top of the lineup. Josifovski beat Kirkland in the No. 2 singles state final in 2025, and a potential rematch could come in the quarterfinals of the No. 1 singles tournament this season.
Division 3
Chloe Coniff, Detroit Country Day
Chloe Coniff is Division 3’s top seed at No. 1 singles and is the best player on the best team in the division. The sophomore lost in the championship match at No. 2 singles last year and has come back with a 19-5 record in 2026.
Alexandria Weitz, Dearborn Divine Child
Weitz, a sophomore, claimed a seed at No. 1 singles after being unseeded a year ago. She is 32-6 in her first two high school seasons. Weitz fell to Coniff in the regional final, and could get a rematch in the state semifinal.
Division 4
Nina Malani, Ann Arbor Greenhills
Last year’s No. 4 singles champion has jumped up to No. 1 singles and is the top seed. The junior Malani is 41-3 in her high school singles career after also winning the No. 1 doubles championship in her freshman campaign.
Sonya Jayakar, Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett
As a freshman, the unseeded Jayakar made the No. 1 singles state quarterfinal. Now a sophomore, Jayakar is a top-three seed. She has only lost twice this season, and only lost two games at regionals en route to a regional championship.
