Police suspect alcohol factor in car-Brightline crash in West Palm

Two people died when the vehicle they were in struck a Brightline train in West Palm Beach on the afternoon of Sunday, May 24, according to West Palm Beach Police, who said alcohol is suspected as a factor.

West Palm Beach Police and Fire Departments respond to the crash along the 600 block of Roseland Drive around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The area is just north of Southern Boulevard and just east of Georgia Avenue.

A vehicle heading westbound on Roseland Drive crossed onto active train tracks and struck a Brightline train traveling northbound, according to West Palm Beach police.

Two people were ejected from the vehicle and died from their injuries.

Police reported that railroad crossing gate arms were down and warning lights and sounds were activated at the time of the crash.

Police said in a statement the investigation is ongoing and alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
