Police release name of motorcyclist killed in crash near Mason

VEVAY TWP. — A motorcyclist who died in a crash with a side-by-side utility vehicle on Tuesday, May 19 has been identified as Derek Babcock, 60, of Mason.

The two vehicles collided about 7:20 p.m. on Barnes Road, near Hawley Road, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said.

The motorcyclist died at a Lansing-area hospital, officials said. His passenger, a 45-year-old Lansing woman, and the driver of the UTV, a 71-year-old man from Mason, were critically injured, they said.

Sheriff’s officials released Babcock’s name on Friday, May 22. There was no update on the conditions of the other two crash victims.

The Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team is handling the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call (517) 676-8444, ext. 1939.
