STURGIS — The 103rd annual Exchange Club All-Sports Banquet for Sturgis High School was hosted last week.
Once again, Sturges Young Auditorium played host to the event, which highlighted senior student-athletes.
The Outstanding Athletes of the Year were honored at the event as well. In order to qualify, a senior athlete must have obtained at least five varsity letters during their time at SHS. The male athlete this year was Gavin Lewis while Sydney Bir was named as the female athlete of the year. Lewis was presented by boy’s golf coach Nate Schwartz while Bir was presented by girl’s hoops coach Andy Phillips.
Lukis Bir finished second for the boys, Angela Cary was second for the girls. Ian Johnson was third for the boys this year, Berkley Holtz was named third for the girls.
Director of Athletics Andy Hatt was the master of ceremonies for the event.
This year’s winners for the Ayres Oak Insurance scholarships were Holtz and Benji Morales.
Senior foil certificates were presented to the student-athletes during the ceremony. Wolverine Conference Scholar Athletes Tessa Hatt and Kenzie Eicher were also presented to those in attendance as well.
This year’s Trojan Scholar athlete awards went to Kinder Smith, Johnson, Marlee Smith, Hannah Ritchie, Aidan Owsley, Holtz, Hatt, Sophia Garcia, Eicher, Cary, Myah Burkey, Sydney Bir, Lewis, Melody Luna, Kenadie Malone, Juliet Mendoza, Gavan Miller, Morales and Gracie Pagels.
To qualify as a Trojan Scholar athlete, at least six varsity letters during their time at SHS plus a minimum GPA of 3.0 was required.
