A 25-year-old man from Orlando was killed Thursday morning, May 21, after losing control while rounding a curve on Interstate 75 in Manatee County near Palmetto, according to a release provided by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man was traveling south on I-75 in a 2024 white Toyota Camry and was approaching mile marker 228 when he traveled off the roadway and collided with a support column beneath an overpass, the FHP said.
The man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
Florida traffic crash statistics for 2026
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reports there were 128,607 crashes in Florida between Jan. 1 and May 16, 2026, with 899 fatalities from all crashes.
The department’s Florida Crash Dashboard also shows there were 83,277 injuries and 834 total fatal crashes statewide during the same period.
