Warren pet-sitter accused in dog-kicking case charged

A Warren woman has been charged in connection with allegedly abusing a dog she was hired to pet sit, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.

Samantha Koss was arraigned Tuesday in the 37th District Court in Warren on two misdemeanor charges related to cruelty to animals.

She was granted a $5,000 personal bond and ordered not to have contact with animals that may be considered pets.

Online court records did not list an attorney for the 28-year-old.

The investigation was sparked by a social media video that shows a woman yelling and kicking a 6-year-old pit bull named Frankie, whose owner is Bobby Brody of St. Clair Shores. Brody told The Detroit News she had used Koss as a pet-sitter previously.

On May 10, Warren police responded to an animal complaint that alleged Koss had been paid to care for the dog and the animal accidentally escaped from her home.

Koss attempted to get the dog back inside by kicking it several times and striking it repeatedly in the face, according to Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The dog did not sustain any permanent injuries.

“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Macomb County,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement Wednesday. “The alleged conduct in this case is disturbing, and my office is committed to holding offenders accountable when animals are abused or neglected.”
