All offseason, wide receiver was viewed as a position of need for the Los Angeles Rams. They let Tutu Atwell walk but didn’t sign anyone in free agency, and the only addition they made was CJ Daniels in the sixth round of the draft.
Stefon Diggs is the top free-agent receiver still available and many have linked him to the Rams as a potential fit. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network was on the “Rich Eisen Show” this week and questioned whether the Rams might consider signing Diggs.
He prefaced it by saying “this is just me spitballing” and that it’s “not based on information,” so he’s not reporting anything.
“You know, the Rams,” Pelissero said. “We talked about that with Mike, too. The fact that they told Davante Adams that they might trade them because they were close to getting an A.J. Brown deal done until they pulled the plug on that. Puka Nacua has had a lot going on in this offseason. He’s been back with the team. Could Diggs to the Rams make sense?”
On one hand, the Rams were in talks to acquire Brown, but they opted against it and chose to keep Adams on the roster. They clearly thought they might be able to upgrade the wide receiver position by adding Brown, but it would’ve come at the cost of Adams.
On the other hand, the team seems confident enough in its wideouts that Sean McVay and Les Snead didn’t feel the need to add one early in the draft – or in free agency. Logically, that wouldn’t make them a fit for a veteran like Diggs.
Plus, with all the 12 and 13 personnel they’re expected to use, WR3 doesn’t appear to be a priority. Diggs would be a luxury addition for the Rams, but he’s not a player they need to go after and pay handsomely.
