Recent health inspections in some Allen Park restaurants revealed soiled equipment, fruit flies and more between March and May, according to Wayne County Health Department inspection reports.
Many of the violations have been corrected. The presence of violations in a past inspection does not necessarily mean the establishment has the same violations today.

Below is a list of violations found at a few restaurants in Allen Park.
Papa’s Pizza, 19347 Ecorse Road
During a routine inspection on March 18, an inspector noted several problems at Papa’s Pizza.
∎ HDX laundry bleach was observed in use for sanitizing in a 3-compartment sink. Poisonous and toxic materials shall be used according to the manufacturer’s directions. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) discarded HDX bleach and was able to produce a food-grade bleach.
∎ Cheesecakes in the display cooler were observed at a temperature of approximately 52.3F. Ambient temperature within the cooler was measured at an approximate range of 47.8F-49.6F. Cold-held potentially hazardous foods shall be kept at a temperature of 41F or below. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) discarded all cheesecakes within the cooler. No other potentially hazardous foods were observed kept above 41F.
∎ Cutting board was observed with deep cuts and grooves. Cutting surfaces shall be free of deep cuts and grooves so they are easily cleanable. Repair/replace.
Del Taco, 14570 Southfield Road
During a routine inspection on March 31, an inspector noted several problems at Del Taco.
∎ The combination nozzle and coke nozzle in the drive-thru were observed to be soiled. Food-contact surfaces of equipment shall be clean to the sight and touch. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) cleaned and sanitized nozzles.
∎ The cooler drawer beneath the grill was observed to be soiled. Nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent accumulation. Clean.
∎ The cutting board on the prep cooler was observed with deep cuts and grooves. Cutting surfaces shall be free of deep cuts and grooves so they are easily cleanable. Repair/replace.
Thunderbowl, 4200 Allen Road
During a routine inspection on March 11, an inspector noted several problems at Thunderbowl.
∎ Plans were not submitted for new construction with a full-service bar and walk-in cooler, cited previously in the last inspection on Feb. 2, 2025. A permit applicant or permit holder shall submit to the regulatory authority properly prepared plans and specifications for review and approval before the remodeling of a food establishment. Submit plans. Enforcement may occur due to repeated violations.
∎ Fruit flies were observed present in the arena bar area. Premises shall be maintained free of pests. Maintain premises free of pests.
∎ Hand soap in the Motor City Bar area was observed to be unusable. Each handwashing sink or group of adjacent handwashing sinks shall be provided with hand cleansing liquid.
∎ The following was observed:
— Ceiling tiles were observed damaged in VIP and cosmic cafe lobby areas, with roof visible and observed damaged.
— Back storage area behind cosmic cafe was observed with ceiling tiles damaged, and mold growth visible in near corner.
— Ceiling drywall and tiles in customer area of Motor City bar was observed damaged.
— Arcade ceiling tiles and lights nearest front entryway were observed with water damage present.
— Hallway nearest restrooms by new bar area was observed with damaged ceiling tiles.
— Ceiling tiles over new bar were observed damaged and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles adjacent to walk-in cooler behind new bar were observed damaged.
— Ceiling tiles over DJ booth adjacent to snack bar were observed damaged and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles in back storage area of snack bar, above reach-in coolers and dish storage were observed damaged and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles in front of walk-in coolers and above dishwashing area were observed damaged and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles in front of and inside office were observed damaged with holes exposing open roof area, and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles in customer area in front of snack bar were observed damaged and sagging.
— Ceiling tiles and light in mens’ restroom nearest snack bar were observed damaged and sagging.
— Arena was observed with ceiling tiles damaged throughout entire area, with insulation exposed above stadium seating and alleys.
— Chemical storage room near snack bar area was observed with all ceiling tiles damaged to varying degrees.
— Maintenance room was observed with ceiling tiles damaged and area above exposed.
— Projector/pool lounge area above stadium seating in arena was observed with ceiling tiles damaged.
— Ice machine behind arena bar was observed with ceiling drywall above damaged, with wood exposed.
— Ceiling drywall in back storage area behind arena bar was observed damaged and sagging.
— Walk-in freezer ceiling in snack bar area was observed damaged.
— Area under beverage dispenser in snack bar area was observed damaged. Physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair. Repair and fill out provided risk control plan.
∎ Hood vents in snack bar area above conveyor oven and stove were observed soiled. Exhaust and ventilation systems shall be cleaned so they are not a source of contamination. Clean.
∎ Rails of conveyor oven, dishwasher strainer, and sides of fryers in snack bar area, as well as the bottom of reach-in freezer in Cosmic Cafe area were observed soiled. Nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent accumulation. Clean.
∎ The 4-compartment sink in the Cosmic Cafe area was observed to be unable to stop operating. Plumbing systems shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ Cutting boards in snack bar and Cosmic Cafe areas were observed with deep cuts and grooves. Cutting surfaces shall be free of deep cuts and grooves so they are easily cleanable. Repair/replace.
Chili’s Grill and Bar, 3230 Fairlane Dr.
During a routine inspection on March 10, an inspector noted several problems at Chili’s Grill and Bar.
∎ One of the dumpsters was observed with lid missing. Storage areas, enclosures, and receptacles for refuse, recyclables, and returnables shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ Hood vents above the oven in the back prep area and above the queuing oven along the cookline were observed to be soiled. Exhaust and ventilation systems shall be cleaned so they are not a source of contamination. Clean.
∎ The handwash sink in the bar area was observed leaking from the faucet base while operating. Plumbing systems shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ Ice build-up was observed on the condenser line in the walk-in freezer. Physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
KFC, 8020 Allen Road
During a routine inspection on March 30, an inspector noted several problems at KFC.
∎ The lemonade/water nozzle on the beverage dispenser was observed to be soiled. Food contact surfaces of equipment shall be clean to the sight and touch. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) was able to provide a sanitized nozzle and a cleaned soiled nozzle.
∎ The ceiling directly above the walk-in cooler nearest the water heater was observed to be damaged. Ice buildup was observed on the condenser line of the walk-in freezer. Physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ The left faucet of the 3-compartment sink was observed leaking with or without operating. The right faucet of the 3-compartment sink was observed leaking at the diverter while operating. Plumbing systems shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ The outside door of the back exit was observed with a gap present at the bottom of the door. Outer openings shall be protected from entry of pests by being tight-fitting and self-closing. Provide a tight-fitting door.
∎ A covered receptacle was not observed in the women’s restroom. A toilet room used by females shall be equipped with a covered receptacle for the storage of sanitary napkins. Provide a covered receptacle.
Best Western Greenfield Inn, 3000 Enterprise Dr.
∎ A box of hand soap was observed stored on the dry food stock shelf directly adjacent to potatoes and onions. Poisonous or toxic materials shall be stored so they can not contaminate food, equipment, utensils, linens, or single-use articles. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) removed hand soap and stored it on the shelf with other chemicals.
∎ The can opener blade was observed to be soiled. Food-contact surfaces of equipment shall be clean to the sight and touch. Corrected: person in charge (PIC) cleaned blade.
∎ A thin-tipped thermometer was not available at the time of inspection. A temperature measuring device with a thin-diameter probe for measuring the temperature of thin masses shall be provided and readily available. Provide a thin-tipped thermometer.
∎ The following was observed: – Handwash sink nearest kitchen was observed with cold water pedal unable to cease operation. – Cold water handle on left faucet of 3 compartment sink was observed unable to remain operating. – Cold water handle of dump sink in dishwasher area was observed inoperable. Plumbing systems shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ Cutting board on prep cooler in kitchen was observed with deep cuts and grooves. Cutting surfaces shall be free of deep cuts and grooves so they are easily cleanable. Repair/replace.
∎ Dry stock shelves and shelves in reach-in cooler directly opposite to kitchen entrance were observed soiled. Nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent accumulation. Clean.
∎ The following was observed: – Holes and water damage were observed present on wall behind door in dry storage area. – Dish storage wall was observed bowing and damaged. – Frame of door to dish storage was observed damaged and bent away from jamb. Physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair. Repair.
∎ Mop sink basin was observed soiled. Plumbing fixtures shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. Clean.
