Ex-Lions RB Montgomery sells Grosse Pointe Shores home for $1.2M

A home owned by former Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery in Grosse Pointe Shores has sold for $1.2 million in a private, off-market deal.

The sale of the two-story residence on Lochmoor Boulevard to a buyer from Boston closed May 15, according to real estate agent Alex Chapman of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate in Birmingham, who represented Montgomery in both the purchase and sale.

Montgomery purchased the roughly 5,200-square-foot home on May 30, 2023, for $1,165,000, according to public records.

Chapman said the recent sale came together quickly, with a buyer secured within about three days of quietly marketing the property.

Built in 1941 and remodeled in 2022, the four-bedroom home features three full bathrooms and two half baths, along with a main-floor office, a large sunroom and a finished basement with a fireplace, bathroom and storage.

Located near Lochmoor Country Club and minutes from Lake St. Clair and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, the property sits among established estates in one of metro Detroit’s more affluent lake-adjacent communities, known for its waterfront setting and notable homes, including the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House.

“He really liked being close to the water and having a quieter, more private lifestyle,” Chapman said of Montgomery’s decision to buy in the area.

The home sits just a few houses from Lake St. Clair and includes a chef’s kitchen, which was a key draw. The primary suite and closet also stood out, offering space to accommodate Montgomery’s extensive sneaker collection.

“There’s a lack of inventory and a lot of buyers competing,” Chapman said. “If you can secure a buyer before going to market, sometimes they’re willing to pay a premium so they don’t get outbid.”

Montgomery, who played a key role in the Lions’ offense and was part of the team’s “Sonic and Knuckles” backfield duo, was traded March 2 to the Houston Texans. The home served as his Detroit-area residence during his time with the team.

For Lions fans, it offers a rare look at where Montgomery lived during his time in Detroit.
