2 kayakers rescued near Mackinac Island. What we know

Two kayakers were rescued from waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island on Saturday, May 16, according to Mackinac Marine Rescue, a team of volunteer marine rescue personnel.

The volunteer group serving the Mackinac Island area said on Facebook that it received an emergency call Saturday about two missing kayakers who paddled out, grew tired, flipped over their kayaks and were unable to get back in.

U.S. Coast Guard Station in St. Ignace deployed a small boat shortly after and arrived on scene. Coast Guard officials then helped get the kayakers and their equipment safely onboard.

According to Seatempreature.org, Lake Huron’s temperature near Mackinac Island on Sunday was just 38.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
