Bernath receives scholarship
ZANESVILLE − Nick Bernath received a $500 Michele Young/Larry Denbow Scholarship for graduating seniors in the five Key Clubs the Zanesville Kiwanis Club sponsors. Bernath is the vice president of the Rosecrans High School Key Club and plans to major in accounting and minor in finance at Marquette University. He’s the son of Ryan and Theresa Bernath.
Genesis receives top quality rating
ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System has received a five star overall hospital quality rating from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The highest rating possible puts Genesis in the top 8% of hospitals in the country. Ratings are calculated using publicly reported quality measures grouped into five areas: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.
McIntire Avenue, Ohio 669 closures
ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced McIntire Avenue will be closed May 19-20 for bridge work as part of Interstate 70 work in Zanesville.
Additionally, Ohio 669 will be closed for culvert replacement from May 18-22 from Perry Township Road 1050 to Park Street in Perry County. Suggested detour is Ohio 669 to Ohio 345 to Ohio 13 to Ohio 669 and reverse for the opposite direction.
Bleeding control training upcoming
ZANESVILLE − A free community training on controlling life-threatening bleeding will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 23 in Meeting Rooms C and D of Genesis Hospital, 2951 Maple Ave. Register online at genesishcs.org.
Zanesville BPW elects officers
ZANESVILLE − Zanesville Business and Professional women recently elected officers for 2026-2027. They are Stephanie Bridwell, president; Teri Clapper, vice president; Mary Ann Dutro, treasurer; and Liz Herrell, recording secretary.

● Northern Local Schools Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 18, at the administration office. This is a date change from what was previously announced.
● Zane State College Board will meet at 5 p.m. May 18, in Room 161 of College Hall, 1555 Newark Road.
● Zanesville Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. May 19, at the Stone Academy Museum, 115 Jefferson St. The topic is Col. John Wilder’s Lightning Brigade.
● Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority will meet at 10 a.m. May 20, at the Welcome Center, 205 N. Fifth St.
● Muskingum County Adult and Child Protective Services Board will meet at 5 p.m. June 4, at the board office, 205 N. Seventh St.
