Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Ty Madden left Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the third inning after being hit in the right arm with a 107.9 mph line drive off the bat of Yohendrick Piñango.
Madden, who could be heard audibly reacting on the broadcast as he tracked down the loose ball on the infield, was quickly met by trainers, teammates and manager AJ Hinch on the mound.
He went through quick tests with the trainer before exiting.
Madden’s apparent injury is now adding to a hefty list of injured Tigers pitchers, as Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize (who is set to start Saturday), Will Vest, Connor Seabold, Troy Melton, Beau Brieske and Justin Verlander are all on the injured list or spent time there this season.
Detroit turned to Burch Smith out of the bullpen to replace Madden, trailing 2-0 in the third inning.
