This summer, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff will veer all their focus to the 2027 recruiting class, starting with five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews’ commitment announcement on Friday, while hosting five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson and John Meredith becomes priority No. 1, hoping to land at least one more blue-chip defensive back.
Along the defensive line, new DL coach Elijah Robinson has already made an impact since returning to the program this offseason, helping land five-star edge Zyron Forstall, who is the highest-rated player in the Aggies’ 2027 cycle.
According to On3 insider Chad Simmons, rising three-star defensive lineman Segun Alexander, who recently reclassified to the 2027 class from 2028, is now the favorite to land with Texas A&M after his recent spring visit to College Station. Inloaded DL class, the Aggies have also landed commitments from four-star defensive linemen Myels Smith, Elijah Patmon, and ascending edge Kaden McCarty.
“He has reclassified from 2028 to 2027, and the Aggies set the tone with a strong spring visit to College Station. That trip helped spark the reclassification conversation, and A&M has carried momentum since.”
Segun Alexander will likely end up as a four-star prospect by the fall after recording an impressive 36 tackles, 12 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Standing 6’2″ and nearly 280 pounds, Alexander has a similar build and relentless play style to current freshman DL Bryce Perry-Wright, who should see the field during the 2026 season.
According to Rivals, Segun Alexander is currently positioned as the 63rd-ranked defensive lineman and 72nd-ranked prospect in Georgia.
