A new burger joint promising to fill a gap in late-night dining is set to open on Friday, May 15, in Berkley on Coolidge Highway.
Buns & Patties is a concept from three metro Detroit childhood friends, David Pinkhasov, Mark Isakov and Vlad Shamayev, who worked in the restaurant industry. Taking up space in a former Tubby’s sub shop at 2375 Coolidge Highway, the trio first announced the new spot in August with big plans for late-night hours.
Buns & Patties hours are 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and other late-night hours are 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The friends got the idea after seeing what was missing in the market — a high-quality, late-night burger joint in an elevated and stylish setting where hospitality is at the forefront.
“We’ve been talking about opening a place like this for years,” said Isakov in a news release. “Now it’s real. We’ve built a spot that people will want to come back to, especially late at night.”
Its menu centers around the Buns & Patties smash burger. The burger features two freshly smashed patties topped with American cheese, pickles, onion, and house sauce on a potato bun.
Joining its smash burger are other offerings, including crispy chicken and spicy chicken sandwiches. There’s a short-rib grilled cheese with a blend of cheeses plus pickled onions, arugula, giardiniera and tomato soup for dipping.
Offered all day is Buns & Patties egg sandwich on an English muffin, topped with thick-cut bacon, cheddar, tomato, and basil sriracha aioli. A vegetarian option is its falafel smash burger with thin falafel patties topped with feta yogurt, cucumbers and pickled onions on a brioche bun.
“We wanted a menu you don’t have to overthink,” said Pinkhasov. “It’s the food that people actually want— burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, sundaes — done right and ready whenever you need it.”
Hand-battered chicken tenders served with honey mustard are also an option. For dessert, there are custard sundaes, including the hot fudge classic, Biscoff crunch, Dubai chocolate, a sundae of the week or a build-your-own option.
Expect a fast-casual vibe inside the 1,400-square-foot space. There’s dine-in for more than 27 people with banquette-style seating plus counter seating that wraps around the restaurant’s open kitchen. You can order takeout or from its walk-up. Parking is offered behind the building.
