Five-star Texas A&M offensive tackle target sets commitment date

The Texas A&M Aggies are one of the finalists for five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, and he is set to announce his commitment this Friday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Matthews, who is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is deciding between the Aggies, Miami Hurricanes, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs. He is the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 6 overall player, according to the Rivals industry ranking. The 6-foot-5, 301-pounder is also the No. 1 player from Florida.

While they are facing plenty of competetion, Texas A&M is the current favorite for Matthews. The Rivals recruiting prediction machine gives them a 95.4% chance to land his commitment on Friday. Miami is next closest at 1.9%.

The Aggies have been recruiting him since January of 2024, when they extended him a scholarship offer. They have hosted him on multiple visits since then, which has allowed them to surge in his recruitment over the in-state Hurricanes, who will be working to keep him home until the end.

Landing Matthews would be another massive addition for Mike Elko and Co., who already have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. If he does pick Texas A&M, he would be thier fifth five-star commitment so far, joining safety Kamarui Dorsey, interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown, edge Zyron Forstall, and cornerback Raylaun Henry.
