Roundup: Newark Catholic softball claims bragging rights at Newark

Aly Rothweiler struck out eight, firing a five-inning two-hit shutout May 9 for the Newark Catholic softball team in a 13-0 victory at Newark.

Veronica Bailey was a perfect 3 for 3, recording two doubles, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Green Wave (16-8). Joanna Bailey added three hits and two RBIs, Avery Sullivan two hits and two runs, Joanna Snider a double and three RBIs and Jahni Whitney a home run and two RBIs.

Maygen Woody and Emerie Brown each singled for the Wildcats (5-18).

BASEBALL

GCA cruises

Aidan Rhoads tripled and doubled as a part of three-hit day, scored twice and drove in three runs, fueling Granville Christian in a 14-1 victory against visiting Northside Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Rhoads also struck out seven and allowed two hits and one run in five innings for the Lions (11-8, 8-3). Josiah Green added three hits, including two doubles, three runs and an RBI, Aiden Geiger two hits, a run and three RBIs and Layton Sheppard and Josh Benvie a double apiece and a combined three RBIs.

Granville drops home game

Wilson Wells homered and doubled as a part of a three-hit day for Granville in a 9-6 loss to visiting DeSales.

Jake Johnson added two hits, a run and an RBI and Chase Holtzapple and Jackson McMillan a hit and a run apiece for the Blue Aces (11-9). Sebastian Lipe struck out four and allowed three hits and one earned run in 3⅓ innings.

BOYS LACROSSE

Johnstown falls

Hayden Norman totaled three goals and three assists in Johnstown’s 15-8 loss to Big Walnut.

Will Taylor led the Johnnies with four goals, and Logan Brown added a goal and Zeke Severs an assist. Ben Smith made 10 saves.
