BATTLE CREEK — Make that six in a row for the Lakeview girls soccer team.
The streak continues for the Spartans as Lakeview is once again the best girls soccer team in the city.
Lakeview defeated Harper Creek 5-2 in the final of the All-City Tournament in girls high school soccer action at Lakeview High School on Saturday, May 9.

It is the sixth straight All-City Tournament title for Lakeview.
“I really love that we kept the streak going for us. That was big for us,” said Lakeview sophomore Abbigail Kline.
The title continues a standout season for the Spartans as Lakeview is 12-2-3 on the year, suffering only its first two losses of the season in the last week, including a defeat to No. 2-ranked Gull Lake.
“We’ve been working hard this year, have a lot of seniors. We have been doing pretty well, but we had a rough week. But this is a good win for us,” Lakeview girls coach Jason Little said. “Harper Creek is a good team this year, think this is only their first loss. So, it’s a good win.”
Lakeview jumped out early and led 2-0 at halftime. The Spartans scored first on a goal by Layla Huffman off an assist by Kline at the 21.27 mark of the first half. With 1:10 left in the first half, Lakeview went up 2-0 on a goal by Lilamae Frank off an assist by Kline.
“Usually we are a second half team, struggled in the first half a lot this year. So, we made it a priority today to start fast,” Little said.
Lakeview pushed the lead to 3-0 on a goal by Madeleine Thawnghmung in the first minute of the second half.
Harper Creek got on the board on a goal by Brooklyn Hankinson to cut the lead to 3-1 with 21:20 left in regulation.
Lakeview responded with another goal by Huffman on an assist by Alanna Hacker. The Spartans went up 5-1 on a goal by Kline on an assist by Huffman with 7:44 left.
Harper Creek’s late goal by Alaina Kirkpatrick made the final score 5-2 as the Beavers fall to 11-1-2 on the year.
Lakeview advanced to the championship game after an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Calhoun Christian/St. Philip. Harper Creek made it to the final after beating Pennfield, 8-0.
Pennfield defeated Battle Creek Central 2-1 in the consolation final.
