“This is an unfortunate incident, and ADPS will always hold ourselves accountable. ADPS remains dedicated to complete transparency and to the community we serve. Any questions should be directed to Chief Aaron Phipps,” the post said.

At 1:59 a.m., ADPS officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Superior and East Pine streets, ADPS said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as an off-duty Albion Public Safety Officer. The release did not name the officer.

During the stop, officers suspected the off-duty Albion Public Safety Officer was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, the release said. ADPS turned the investigation over to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The off-duty Albion Public Safety Officer was then arrested for operating while intoxicated and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
