Treasure Coast Region Softball: Roundup of quarterfinal games

Here’s a roundup of regional quarterfinal softball games involving Treasure Coast-area teams from Wednesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 7.

Of the eight area programs in action, six have punched their tickets to the next round: John Carroll Catholic, Legacy, Master’s Academy, Okeechobee, St. Lucie West Centennial and Sebastian River.

Thursday

Region 4-5A

No. 5 Legacy 6, No. 5 South Fork 3: The Lions’ first taste into regional play was a successful one as they never trailed during a road triumph over the Bulldogs. 

The visitors scored a run in the second inning and three more in the fourth. After the hosts responded with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, Legacy (13-7) plated two insurance runs in the seventh. 

Stats were unavailable. The Lions swept three games against South Fork in 2026 by a combined margin of 19-8. 

Legacy advances to play Tuesday at top-seeded Pembroke Pines Charter. The Bulldogs end the season with a 11-10 record.

No. 3 Sebastian River 5 No. 6 Bayside 1: Gabrielle Espich was superb in the circle while Kendra Powers provided the power to help the Sharks get revenge on the road against the Bears. Bayside defeated Sebastian River for the District 13-5A title seven days earlier. 

Espich shut down the Bears bats, allowing a run on five hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Powers finished a triple shy of the cycle, as the freshman went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored. 

Elsewhere at the plate, Alexa Pittman had three hits and a team-best three RBIs while Payge Hunter added two hits, an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.

The Sharks (16-6) move on to play Tuesday at No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Region 2-7A 

No. 7 St. Lucie West Centennial 5, No. 2 Wellington 3: One season after being blanked by the Wolverines, the Eagles exploded for all of its runs in the top of the sixth inning to knock out the defending state champions on the road. 

Serenity Robinson delivered the biggest blow with a two-run home run. The freshman also added a double as part of a 3-for-4 performance. 

Addyson Barton, Haylie Lawston, Rayne Cohen and Makayla Megnauth each added a hit. Barton was credited with an RBI while Cohen and Megnauth joined Robinson, Emma Hazelton and Lauralei Wetherall with a run scored. 

Wellington struck first with three runs in the fourth, but that’s all the hosts got off Megnauth in the circle. The freshman allowed third hits and four walks with seven strikeouts to collect a complee-game victory.

Centennial moves on to play Tuesday at No. 3 St. Cloud.

No. 1 Jupiter 16, No. 8 Vero Beach 1 (F/4): Despite scoring a run, Vero Beach was no-hit in a four-inning loss on the road to the top-seeded Warriors. 

Crysaria Joseph plated the visitors’ lone run in the top of the second inning to tie the game. She was one of three players to reach via a walk, along with Kennedy Dannell and Miley Torres. Meanwhile, Jupiter recorded 12 hits and seven walks.

In a season highlighted by a district title, Vero Beach ends its 2026 campaign with a 10-12 record. 

Wednesday

Region 4-2A

No. 5 John Carroll Catholic 9, No. 4 Palmer Trinity 0: Makayla Ortiz turned in arguably the best performance of her prep career to guide the Rams past the Falcons in Miami.

The senior pitcher and Barry University signee was absolutely magnificent in the circle, firing one-hit shutout. Ortiz was in complete control as she struck out 15 without allowing a walk. She also helped her cause at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Ortiz had plenty of support from others in the lineup, with four players delivering multi-hit games. Isabella Sanchez paced the visiting offense. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. 

Sammi Rychter, Mackenzie Mostoller and Victoria O’Brien each contributed two hits and an RBI. Rychter and Mostoller had two doubles apiece while Rychter and O’Brien each scored twice. 

John Carroll Catholic has earned the right to play one last home game in 2026, with the victory coupled with top-seeded Florida Christian falling in the quarterfinals. The Rams (13-8) play N. 8 Cardinal Newman at 4 p.m. Tuesday from John Carroll Catholic High School. 

Region 4-4A

No. 5 Okeechobee 8, No. 4 Archbishop McCarthy 3: Drawing 12 walks and stacking up 10 hits, the Brahmans were on early and often during their home win over the Mavericks. 

Haylee Pendrey reached safely in all five of her plate appearances, as the senior went 2-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored. Sophomore Dyani Kayda also had three walks while Hayden Slovenski matched Pendrey with two hits. Melaine Bonilla and Lilly Larson each drove in two runs. 

Charisma Micco posted a team-best three hits. The junior also got the win in the circle, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks through seven innings. 

Okeechobee (15-10) plays top-seeded American Heritage on Tuesday from Plantation.  

No. 3 Somerset Academy 1, No. 6 Jensen Beach 0: The Falcons were on the unfortunate side of a low-scoring affair against the Panthers from Pembroke Pines. The road team was held to one hit by Somerset senior Caitlyn Diaz. 

Stats were unavailable for Jensen Beach, who finished the season with an 11-8 record. 

Region 4-1A

No. 4 Master’s Academy 8, No. 5 Merritt Island Christian 1: One week after smashing the Cougars for a district title on the road, the Patriots had repeated success in the rematch. Visit TCPalm.com for a recap of this game.
